A paperweight that encases Akita’s traditional silver filigree craftsmanship within exceptionally clear glass. Silver filigree is a metalworking art form that developed during Japan’s Edo period as ornamentation for samurai sword fittings and kanzashi hair ornaments. Ultra-fine silver wires measuring approximately 0.2 mm in diameter are twisted together in strands of two or three, then flattened through rolling before being shaped into intricate decorative forms. Through this meticulous process, the silver transforms from the hard brilliance characteristic of metal into a soft, snow-like white luster. This piece was created in collaboration with a young glass artist based in Akita Prefecture. Within its organic form — evocative of shapes found in nature — motifs of plants and medaka fish gently emerge beneath the surface. Each piece is presented in a custom-made paulownia wood box.

Each piece is made to order and carefully finished by hand by skilled artisans. As a result, slight variations in size, texture, and appearance may occur from piece to piece. These subtle differences are inherent to handcrafted work and are part of the unique character of each item.
